Legal Letter of Copyright Permission

Given that we don't own this song, we seeked out the record label and contact information for our chosen song so that we could ask for permission to use this song as our music video.

Here is our permission email to send to the record label/ownership of the band.

Here is how we managed to find Grumpy Plums contact details online via FaceBook.

Audience Profiling

The Jicnars Scale is a way for grouping the demographic audience, however this doesn't help us categorise our target audience as our audience are unemployed and still in eduction.

This is why we use psychographic projfiling which allows us to predict consumers as to what beliefs, values and lifestyle choices.

VAL is a technique of lifestyle profiling, it stands for Values, Attitudes and Lifestyles and is a psychographic consumer segregation system. It beholds eight consumer segments: innovators, thinkers, achievers, experiencers, believers, strivers, makers and survivors.

Our target audience for our campaign appeal is mainly females, in the age category of 13 - 15 year olds. Because our audience are unemployed and still in education, we will look at the Teenage VALS system to classify the attitudes and lifestyles of our teenage audience.
By looking at the Teenage VALS system we decided  our band is most appealing to rebels and innovators. This is because of the image of the band that we are creating based off similar artists like Avril Lavigne, The Runaways, Kelly Clarkson and No Doubt.

Feedback from treatment

In this post, I will be recording the feedback I received after pitching our two full treatments to our classroom teacher and our production teacher. We pitched our first treatment as its our strongest idea and most likely to be used.

Regarding the casting, we were advised to cast three very obviously different looking independent and confident girls, who can play instruments, ideally bass, electric guitar and drums. The lead singer needs to be charismatic and suitable to be a performer who can play guitar and also sing well. This is to make sure it doesn't look like the actors are lip syncing but actually performing. By creating each girls own independent image, it means that the audience can appeal to their favorite girl, this will help promote the band.

Our two concepts were approved, the graffiti connotes a rebellious feel to the music video which contrasts with our opening scene in a dollhouse, barbie, and very stereotypical girly pink theme which is the opposite of the girl band. We decided with our teachers to only use two locations to save time. Our teachers suggested to shoot the whole band performance in the opening within the barbie dollhouse in order to maximise the set.

In the opening of the music video, we came up with the idea of the three girls wearing long, prom dress style dresses to adheres to the typical girly stereotype, from this our original idea was to wreck their dresses with paint and spray paint and completely destroy the girly sterotopye as they dress how they want to. However, as it might take a few times to shoot the first shots in the dresses before their wrecked, we are going to buy similar dresses which they will change into during the rebellious, wreck-less scenes.

So that we dint't need toi build a third set, our teachers advised that we film the band trashing, destroying and throwing paint around the second set. This will then act as our third set ince it is damaged.

Our four targets to improve our pitch is to cast a strong, confident, charismatic lead singer which the camera can mainly focus on instead of filming close ups of all three all of the time. WE need to ensure that we do cast three unique looking girls who all contrast a different style to the others. Also to maximise the barbie first set, we can use the space to film the whole band performing instead of just the one main singer. We will also go out of our way to buy similar dresses to the opening scene which we will rip, paint on and destroy for the costume change where they reveal their own identity and style. This will save time on the set and give us more time for filming.

Feedback

In this lesson I presented my two song choices to the class and I received feedback. They listened to each song and decided whether it was a band/artist, the genre, target audience, performance and costume. This was helpful as it narrowed down which song would be best to use as a new upcoming artist to build their campaign.

1. Voix - Pull You Down

It is clear from the song that this was a male pop artist, most likely a lead singer in a typical boy band which would appeal to young teenagers and fit into the mainstream music category. This music video would be easy to cast within our school, most likely a musical theatre actor as the singer sounds quite confident and outgoing. In the feedback, my classmates imagined the music video to be very bright and colourful, with the male singer dressed quite trendy. The music video would most likely be a performance which would include dancers and visuals. Conventions could include a slight love interest in order to appeal for teenage girls and also parents who would approve to buy this for their daughter. My peers felt that this lead singer character would be very self focused meaning the music video and campaign would be completely focused on him and his attention from girls.
In my production group, which consists of Bashy, Tegan, Adriana and I, we chose to use this song as our backup choice as we think that it would be interesting to create an image for a solo male pop artist, this would be marketable to a large audience and castable as a music video.

2. Matthew V - Give It All

This second song choice runs under the same pop category, however has a slight twist in artist. In the feedback I received, people thought that this artist lacks the love interest and could appeal to any type of audience. The singer sounds like a slightly older solo male artist which would mean we would cast an A2 boy. This pop genre has a hint of house with it, meaning the music video would focus more on the visuals rather than the artist himself. This music video would be more fun and upbeat rather than seriously focusing on the good looking male singer in the other song choice.
